not quite the fan of that one as for a song to post not a super fan of this womans music but this song is great, modern (since it was released in 2011) new wave 80's pop at its best This is from her second album Electra Heart which is her only good one as im concerned, her other stuff is you modern crappy inde pop ala Lorde and her ilk. Of course critics bashed this one saying it was a major step down from her debut. and here is some guitar "wankery" from a solo project of The Visual Kei artist Hizaki As with most Visual kei, yes, she is a man. Hizaki also has two bands one on hiatus and one in a lineup change (also extremely common in VK) called Versailles and Jupiter they play symphonic power metal much like Rhapsody Of Fire so you would probly like them Primulus. I find Versailles to be better musically but Jupiter has the far better vocalist. Kamijo (Versailles) formerly of Lareine doesnt have to voice to sing this type of vocals and his attitude has become the worst of Mana and Gackt combined. Im not really into the scene like I was 5 or 6 years ago but it does hold a special meaning to me so I check in from time to time and grumble at whats its become, the irony being that what it has become is what my girlfriend loves. I think you all get the drift that she is the reason mentioned above. I tended to like the late 90 VK and this picture basicly sums up the difference between me an my GF actually that second band is not even close to her favorite VK style sub genre Oshare kei (shudders)

Max Galactica - Nice stuff! I am not really much of a Rush listener admittedly, although it's not like I've ever found anything wrong with any of their songs, and that one was no exception. I just never got around to really checking them out, and perhaps I should. The Sawano song is pretty great, too, I really like Aimer's voice a lot. ancientrune - That first song, in its raw sound, sounds a little European to me. I'm not even sure why that was anymore, but I remember thinking, "this sounds a lot like euro pop" but I couldn't tell any accent on the vocalist. I liked it, anyway. The Visual Kei guitar wankery is pretty awesome too, I've never really looked too deeply into Visual Kei as a genre but I'd heard stuff with Gackt and some other performers and a lot of the vocalist style of Visual Kei has never really been my cup of tea. (That third song definitely isn't my cup of tea either.) I'm amused by the then and now picture though. Although I don't see anything particularly wrong with the now myself, aside from obviously trying to look more anime. It's outlandish in its own way though, and I suppose that should be the point. For this post, I'd like to share a few more songs. Drawing once again from the Ys Seven soundtrack, I've had a little trouble figuring out which song I should post since now I've completed the game and the entire soundtrack has become one of my most beloved soundtracks very quickly. However, I've settled on two in particular, which hopefully will serve as fantastic representatives of the soundtrack, in addition to the two I've already posted. "Road to Solitary Death"
A rather ominous title for a track that's actually so upbeat. It plays in a sort of badlands canyon area that hasn't been traveled through by humans in hundreds of years and is filled with particularly difficult enemies.
"The Place Where Souls Return"
This here is the final dungeon theme, and it sets the mood pretty perfectly.
If you find yourself liking these two songs in addition to what I posted before, you may want to check out the whole soundtrack. It should not disappoint.

ancientrune : I liked the instrumentals on the first song, but I wasn't a big fan of the vocalist. The second song was pretty good, although it was leaning more on the heavy side for my taste. And the third one was definitely not my style that I'd like, but I guess it's not yours either. Primulus : Both of those songs were excellent, especially the second one. I may have to look up that soundtrack sometime soon. Since you guys were talking about GACKT, that reminded me of this song by them that I really like. It's used as the opening theme for an iOS game called 3594ε (Japan only). The only reason I know about that game is because it's the only other game that Sawano composed for. Although he never released the soundtrack, except for two songs ( 3594εMT) ( ThreeFiveNineFourε), which is really odd for him, since he's released literally everything that he's composed except for this soundtrack. Maybe he will sometime in the future. Anyways, the GACKT song is called "DAY BREAKERS". I especially love the piano in this song.

Max Galactica - Those 3594ε songs are pretty interesting! I particularly liked ThreeFiveNineFourε. Gackt's voice isn't my favorite thing ever, but it's quite good in the Day Breakers song too. flameheadshero - My last upload for the day is a song dedicated to you. This was the song I was listening to as I prepared for and went on to begin the on-foot fight with Telethia, the Endbringer, including flying up to it the first time. Hopefully you find it as mood-setting as I did! (You probably won't, it's an odd selection.) In commemoration of your readiness to fight the Telethia, I present this song to you. EDIT: There's this one, too, which is probably far more appropriate for the preparation to kill Telethia than the above:

Heh, nice. But I think I'll end up playing this to the telethia fight:
"Why won't you die?!"
"Soul Read, son!"

Heh, nice. But I think I'll end up playing this to the telethia fight: "Why won't you die?!" "Soul Read, son!" That song is definitely up there with my favorites from that OST, along with Collective Consciousness, The Only Thing I Know for Real, Stains of Time and Red Sun. This might be surprising, but my least favorite song in the game is actually Rules of Nature (surprising because it tends to be the fan favorite song). But it's still a great song, I just don't think it's anywhere near as good as the rest.

Here's another group that I really like, called Mystery Skulls. I just love the synths that they use. These are my favorites by them: "Ghost", "Magic", and "Money". And I'll add "Beautiful" as well, since the piano sounds like something out of Persona.

Well, today was the release date of a new Sawano soundtrack: Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (I definitely recommend you watch it). So I made this preview video in an attempt to avoid the copyright gods (aka Sony). Use it to preview the soundtrack, and use the links in the description of the video if you want to listen to the full song (the full songs were uploaded by Rathlion on SoundCloud). This soundtrack is truly amazing, and is one of Sawano's best soundtracks. My favorite songs are Warcry, Next of Kin, Grenzlinie, and 1coma. But all of the songs are really good, in one way or another. The most different-sounding song from the soundtrack is JAnoPAN, so I recommend you try that one out as well. It's unlike anything else Sawano has produced before.

I just decided to bump this thread to share a few songs from a soundtrack I've just been recently exposed to. The soundtrack is of the game Furi, a new game out on the PC and PS4. (It's free this month if you have a PlayStation Plus account, too! Otherwise it's like $25 on PS4 and $20 on Steam.) While I'm not sure the game itself will be of much interest to anyone here besides me (it's a boss rush game, in which nearly the entirety of the gameplay is made up of very long and grueling boss fights), the soundtrack is quite wonderful. If it sounds a bit like Hotline Miami to you, it's because it has at least one of the same composers as Hotline Miami 2, and it's clear they were going for the same style.
I think this might go down for my favorite soundtrack of 2016, myself, but I'm not sure if it'll hit anyone else quite the same way.
EDIT: Adding another song just because it's well worth being added to this post.

Haven't posted here in a while, but since I have the time for it now, I'll do it.
I'm glad you mentioned the Furi soundtrack, Primulus, as I've been listening to it myself for quite a while now and it is really amazing (helps that I listen to electronic music [not referring to just EDM] a lot these days). And the gameplay of the game seems very solid to me from what I've seen, same with the artstyle.

I actually found the Metal Gear Rising soundtrack in a store today during my lunch break. I grabbed it up real quick because it was on sale. Look forward to listening to that in my car. Right now, I only have video game OSTs in my car.

Rathlion - Furi actually gives me more of a Metal Gear Rising vibe than a Dark Souls vibe, although really I can see Dark Souls too. It also reminds me a bit of Ys, which I will revisit later in this post. flameheadshero - I actually bought a used copy of Metal Gear Rising back in June and didn't get to trying it until well after the return period on it expired. I had bought it with Dark Souls, and was so enamored with Dark Souls that I decided to play through it entirely first. Then got distracted with other games until so much time had passed, it was too late to return it. Anyway, the Metal Gear Rising disc is broken, so now I need to buy yet another copy if I'm going to play it. In any case, this is the music sharing thread, so it's time to share some music. Ys VIII came out a few weeks ago in Japan, and its soundtrack is positively triumphant. I am now unsure whether I like Furi or Ys VIII's more... Suffice it to say, 2016 is shaping out to be a good year for video game soundtracks. I'll post three of my favorites from Ys VIII now. Okay I lied, here's a fourth song: I'm also hearing that Ys VIII is getting VERY well received in Japan. It actually got the exact same marks from Famitsu that XCX did (9/9/8/8), and it's probably the next XCX for me, in terms for games I'm hyped for. Sadly it probably won't come to the west until like, another year at soonest.

I hate to double post, but considering there are so few of us regular posters here anyway, I suppose it's pretty well kosher to do so, especially when it's thread necromancy.
In any case, I'm going to post a small assortment of favorite songs from the last week or two that I can't get out of my head, of various games and other sources. Enjoy!

No, I haven't played the game. Still don't have a Playstation but I came across this theme. Wow. I am digging this.
Also, since buying the Metal Gear Rising OST and playing it in my car, I realized that I actually don't like the majority of the OST. In fact, the only tracks I like are all the major boss themes. It's like all the boss themes are on a whole different level than the rest of the OST. I guess that's the point though. Also Red Sun is now my favorite track from that game.

I'm new here, and it seems that most of the people originally on this thread have been inactive for some time. However, I think this is a really cool thread. I haven't listened to all the music shared yet but there are a lot of great recommendations here. I'd like to add a few of my own.
Here's my current favorite band, The Reign of Kindo, a super underappreciated band from here in the States. They are so freaking talented and they take a bit of inspiration from video game soundtracks in their music. (You can hear some ideas taken from Zelda/Smash in this one.)
One of my favorite video game OSTs in recent years is from the Ubisoft game, Child of Light. It's so simple but emotive and touching. It fits perfectly with the game as well.
And then I guess I might as well end with one of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite movies, How to Train Your Dragon.

Man I'd love to listen to a lot of these, but with all the embedded videos it just takes forever to load the page. Is there any way to turn that off? Can't find one myself. Has anyone ever watched this anime? This theme is kickass. I watched this last year when Funimation was taking it off their site. I loved this theme! One of the main reasons I decided to watch it was because it had Yugo Kanno, the same composer as Psycho-Pass. Between that and Birdy I really enjoy what I've heard from him. One of my favorite video game OSTs in recent years is from the Ubisoft game, Child of Light. It's so simple but emotive and touching. It fits perfectly with the game as well. Child of Light was such a warm and cozy game. Love the soundtrack.

^Yugo Kanno is really good. (Funny how there are two Kannos who are great anime composers.)
I love his use of different textures in that first piece, especially the pizzicato. Not enough soundtrack composers take advantage of the full range of techniques available to them on just a single instrument. Also that violin solo is BA.
