I'll be posting more comprehensive thoughts regarding my current progress soon, but for the time being I just wanted to pop in and say that the Sonny battle was freaking glorious. I was in complete awe/confusion/delight and laughing during the entire cutscene and battle. Oh, and Shevat's theme is beautiful. So good. (Also, Primulus, I actually looked the Ether Doubler up and apparently there's a way to buy it in Nisan after Babel Tower - but before Solaris - which is good because I failed to buy one prior.) Sonny battle? Was that the giant wels you fight, with the introduction of Billy's gear? You like Shevat's theme huh? Well check this out: And that's nice, about the Ether Doubler! I didn't even know that. There's also a way to get one at endgame, and I know one can be picked up as treasure sometime in disc 2. Wolfe - Yeah, I think that was indeed the case. Of course, now SirMouse has passed that point, if he's in Shevat already. (We were talking about Babel Tower.) I have no idea how, but I mixed up the name Chu-Chu with Sonny. I think she might've said "Sonny" during one of her dialogues and I subconsciously misinterpreted it as her name (while also thinking "Chu-Chu" was the name of her race). My bad, haha. And that's a beautiful rendition!

Oh boy, Chu-Chu! Imagine how controversial it would've been if Tatsu grew to be skell-sized and started bashing Ganglion skells like Chu-Chu did... despite the fact that there's precedence both in Xenogears with Chu-Chu and with the Nopon species in the first Xenoblade.
Also, Chu-Chu is both her name and the name of her race. It's weird. Can't really discuss Chu-Chu's origins until you finish the first disc though. Which isn't far now if you're already to that point! You should be starting to take down the gates now, right? Or are you already way ahead?

Just checked again and her displayed name is Sonny (at least, while in my party), so I'm at least glad to know I haven't gone insane! As for my progress, I'm currently in the mausoleum beneath Nisan. I know I'm nearing the end of disc 1, but with how everything's playing out right now, it's crazy to think there's an entire second part to the game...

The point of no return which takes you to the disc swap is like boarding a rollercoaster to the finale. With answers to things!

SirMouse - Chu-chu is the only character you can rename in the entire game. When Margie introduces her, she is introducing Chu-chu by name, and the game suddenly gives you the choice to name her. I guess you went with Sonny for some reason and forgot! Wolfe - I do believe, at the risk of being potentially spoilery, the point of no return is actually going to Solaris. The disc swap occurs at the end of Solaris, and while you will go back to the world map eventually, there's quite a lot that happens between the entry of Solaris and the return to the world map in disc two. Basically, just make sure you've done everything you want to do on the world map for a long, long time before entering Solaris and you're fine.

Haha, oh man, you just made me remember that I did indeed rename her Sonny (after a Guinea pig I used to own); I'd totally forgotten about that! And thanks for the advice! I'm about to head to the first gate, so I'll post another update soon (with some overall thoughts on disc 1 once I've finished it)!

Brief update, but I still wanted to share:
Visited a city that required a 3-hour bus ride to get to, so I decided to bring my Vita with me. I ended up playing Gears for a bit, during which I picked up where I'd left off several months back (just before the journey to Solaris).
Now, I don't know how y'all reacted your first time around, but entering the city and being greeted by that music and those people was one of the most dumbfounding and hilarious moments I've had playing an otherwise-serious game, and it marked the second time the game has thrown something completely out of left field at me in terms of comedic awe (the first event being Chu-Chu's transformation). Suffice it to say, never has a game's music caused such a severe tonal shift so abruptly for me.
Anyhow, I made it to Elly's house before ending my session (the shower bit being an odd scene in of itself), and while I'm not sure exactly when I'll actually start focusing on the game again (busy and I want to finish Chronicles first), I'm looking forward to eventually getting back to it and the twists and turns that are soon to come.

I already kind of said the same thing before, but that sort of levity is one thing I appreciate about Takahashi-san and Monolith Soft in this age of videogame storytelling trying to take itself so damned seriously.

inquisitor -- Yup, for PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. But I didn't know it was available for the portable systems until SirMouse mentioned it.
