Funny thing about immersion. I got into a conversation on youtube about a gamespot review of Star Ocean V. The reviewer gave a lot of criticisms of the game's design and story but in the middle of the review they randomly decided to criticize the fact that when you walk into NPCs, they get pushed back yet when you walk into your party members, you just walk through them. It's exactly like it is in Xenoblade Chronicles X. The reviewer complained that it broke immersion and took them out of the experience.
I thought that was such a silly nitpick. I haven't played a Star Ocean game in my life so I have no strong feelings about the review of the game but I still don't really get the whole focus on immersion some people seem to have with video games. It's a convenience thing. Your party members are always following you - you can't have them blocking you. And if you give them a shoving animation and voice clip whenever you touch them slightly, it'll get annoying fast. I think it's really weird to see that you can walk through your allies and then go "WHOA! This is a video game? I totally forgot! My immersion is ruined!" Someone spoke about how in RPGs with story, immersion is more important and that something like that could ruin things for some people. In my opinion, RPGs are full of immersion breaking things. Like numbers popping up when you slash things. Immersion is overrated haha. I mean, of course you need some but stuff like walking through teammates is nothing.
To shift to something else though - has anyone been playing Pokemon Go? I can't because I actually don't own a smart phone. It's crazy seeing so many people go crazy over this but I also noticed it's drawing the "genwunners" out of the woodworks haha.

Wow, that IS a silly nitpic. Just like you said, RPGs have a lot of "immersion-breakers". I feel like some reviewers hate on games just because it's the cool thing to do, but I don't know. I try to only listen to reviewers who I know like the same games as I do.
And yeah, I've been playing Pokémon GO! It's way better than I thought it would be (even though I haven't had many battles yet). The collector in me loves it. I was surprised to see how many people play it out here in a Swedish suburb. I didn't expect ANYONE but me running around here, but judging from the local gyms we've got at least ten people near me.

Yeah, I feel as if the reviewer was already soured by their experience with the game and was just looking for more things to criticize about it. Something like that would've been ignored had they liked it. I try to listen to a lot of different types of reviews though most of the time I can tell if I'll like a game just by looking at it and seeing some gameplay footage. Review scores have never fully swayed my decision on something because there are plenty of games people say you should like that I don't care about and vice versa.
I went to Pokemon Symphonic Evolutions last night, which is a symphonic orchestra concert that plays Pokemon music. Pretty much 99.9% of the audience was playing GO. So many people walking around with their heads buried into their smart phones. Kids playing it on smart phones AND their parents playing it on their smart phones next to them. My friend was playing it and there was a gym at the concert hall that got reclaimed by someone else every 2 minutes. People haven't been this crazy about Pokemon since 1998 and this time it's not just kids. It's kind of surreal.

I really enjoy the success of Pokemon Go since I hope this means the Pokemon Company will be able to deliver even better games in the future.
Sadly I just went on a summer trip to a remote part of the country and there doesn't seem to be any Pokemon OR Pokestops around here at all. :/

Speaking of pokemon go if anything this show that the ip is strong enough to be a seller on other systems, if Nintendo was smart they would demand a Pokemon game for the NX or else they are pretty dumb.

I'm sure NX will get some kind of Pokemon game. There's always at least something on the home consoles.

So it finally happened, I stopped playing Xenoblade X. And I think this time it will be for a long, long while before I ever play it again. Got something between 700-900 hours from both playthroughs and it's been 7 months since the game came out so... wow. No game has ever enthralled me like this one. It's my new favorite of all time.
So now I've finally gotten around to playing Tokyo Mirage Sessions. As people have been saying, it's really good! I was always a fan of the visual style of the game and as someone who isn't a SMT or FE fan, I was never upset about what it became. Still, it's good to see the game is good after it got trashed so relentlessly. It's got a really great art style, characters are really likable so far, the battle system is really fun and it has a pretty good challenge level even at normal difficulty. I actually got party wiped a few times already (it's one of those RPGs where you're booted to the title screen if you game over! Xenoblade gave me a false sense of security.) Music is really good too - of course, you have to like J-pop to get into it. Story is OK, haven't gotten that far but right now it's basically "anime monster-of-the-week formula" but like I said, the characters are likable so it's been entertaining so far. I'm also using a patch that uncensors the game, so that's a plus.

Glad to see you are enjoying Persona Emblem. Also speaking of censorship the major censorship of the second boss (the clouds added) is only present in the cutscenes while the model in game remains as cleavage as ever, it seemed like it was more work to do what they did that really didn't matter.
Also the people who stole my stuff have been kicked out of their house and had to leave the neighborhood after someone bought the house they were using. The story the new people told me is that after the grandmother died she left it to her daughter who in turn gave it to her daughter after going to prison. the granddaughter was a junkie who was letting her junkie friends live there and was basically a drug house.
So now all the trash is gone from my area and I should be able to not be bothered by the house anymore as the guy who bought it is gonna fix it up and sell it

Yeah, I heard about that change and how it was pointless. I recently finished Chapter 2 which is the one about Gravure models and I'm looking at it and thinking about how much they must have changed for the localized version. It really must have been a big effort. Glad I went out of my way to use this patch. And I've said it before but a game's aesthetic goes a long way in making me like it and this game is just all around great for that: And good to hear those people are gone, AncientRune. I guess that means you never got your stuff back though? Well, at least they're gone.

Has anyone bought Tokyo Mirage Sessions? I got it but I haven't played it yet. I've heard good things about it though. I have, it's a really fun game.
