Hey all!
Something that sets this forum apart from others is how mature and friendly the atmosphere is, and while it would be nice to assume it will stay like that forever, the sad reality is that it won't always go without incident.
As we continue to grow as a community and word of this forum spreads, unsavory users will likely appear more often; but while a banning system is a necessary solution to major issues such as those, we also need smaller solutions for more minor issues that will naturally crop up over time. Because of this, I wanted to let everyone know that as of now, we will be implementing a warning, strike, and banning system from here on out. What does this mean? Read on for an overview of each facet below:
Warnings - These will be given out for minor grievances (such as making a habit of breaking a minor rule) and can either be issued within a topic toward a specific user, or as a warning for several or all members taking part in a discussion. While they may not result in bans, receiving constant warnings may lead to receiving:
Strikes - These are more significant moderations that will be handed out via PM to those who have either broken a more major rule or who've received several warnings within a short period of time. If a user shows significant improvement in behavior (or has gone 2 months without incident) after receiving a strike, his or her strike will expire. However, if a user receives 3 strikes before any have expired, this will result in a:
Ban - After receiving 3 strikes, a user will receive a 1-month ban, and any attempts to disrupt the community further during that time may result in a ban extension or, in extreme cases, a perma-ban. Perma-bans will be given only to the most grievous of offenders - those who go out of their way to break rules and have no regard for the guidelines set out in the rules thread. This also includes users who join for the sole intention of trolling or attacking others. Lastly, temporary bans of 3 to 7 days will be given to those whom the staff feel has broken a rule that merits a ban but might not require something as lengthy as 1 or more months.
"So, how can I help?" you may ask. Obviously, your main goal should be to follow the rules of this community to the best of your ability so as not to be a reason for any issues, but you can also help in another way, and that is by:
Reporting - If you see a post that is in clear violation of this community's guidelines, report it to the staff by clicking on that post's settings. Be sure to include a reason for reporting, and remember that unnecessary abuse of this system may result in a warning or strike.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me or one of the other staff!
