I just wanted to share my utter lack of sympathy for Powell and his tragic shortsightedness and lack of business acumen. Maybe he was also just a xenophobe, but he failed to consider any of these options for Army Pizza: - Spend his (presumably) plentiful revenue on hiring more staff, expanding the store, or anything a logical business owner would do in response to booming demand.
- Arrange for a Ma-non teleporter in the commercial district to slash delivery times to the Ma-non ship.
- Assert his right as a private business owner to refuse service or dictate the terms of transactions. He has all the leverage and a ubiquitous militia to back him up if anything turned ugly.
- If he really just hated the Ma-non, he could have handed the business over to one of the numerous citizens looking to make a quick buck.
I think the delivery you make to the ship was supposed to establish empathy for Powell and his wife, but in the end he was just a brutally violent man with no clue how to capitalize on a big business opportunity. Too bad for his wife. Come to think of it, I didn't check to see if someone is running Army Pizza in their place now. I wonder what they have to say about it.

Yeah, he was a jerk. I was spoiled on him being the culprit though, so I never got to experience the reveal.
I like the teleporter idea, btw! If the Ma-non are so desperate for pizza they should be happy to build one just to get it quicker.

I just finished this quest and it was definitely one of the best ones I've seen. It's right up there with the Water Purification Plant quest.
I'm curious on what routes everyone took on this. On my route, I was able to disarm the bomb on Gerome (is there something that I did that gave me the knowledge to be able to do that?). From that, Ackwar was able to figure out about the poisoned pizza, and Ackwar didn't die. Then we took down Powell, and that was the end.
Also, how did Powell's wife die? I never got any indication on what happened to her.
I also passed the 60% survey rate of Mira upon finishing this quest!

I might be getting it mixed up with another mission, but I recall there is an NPC you can talk to who tells you how to disarm a bomb or something, which ends up getting used in a mission later on. It might've been so long ago you just didn't remember it, or it might not have been this particular mission.

I couldn't disarm the bomb, so after returning from Noctilum I spoke to Ackwar's partner Jim, who told me (IIRC) that Ackwar had gotten a message from the suspected killer and already left for Oblivia to confront them. He was killed by Powell before I got there. According to the internet, the NPC who tells you how to disarm a bomb is in the skell hangar area, near where you meet the Murderess. I haven't even located where that is (I have not met her yet), so that helps explain why I never bumped into that NPC. Also, how did Powell's wife die? I never got any indication on what happened to her. She committed suicide because of the stress of her workload at Army Pizza and being verbally abused by whiny and demanding pizza-crazed Ma-non. It's possible that it didn't come up in your confrontation with Powell because Ackwar was there...?

Seriously? You should get on that. Murderess is one of the most entertaining party members. She leaves a pretty rough first impression, but her subsequent affinity missions are pretty good, and I really love her post-battle banter with Lao, as well as hers with the Avatar (Peppy voice). And I suspect the cause of Powell's wife's death is only discussed if Ackwar dies. However, this makes Powell even more of an idiot, because if she committed suicide as a mimeosome, then she should be still alive inside the Lifehold, she just needs a new mimeosome to replace the one she trashed. (If you return to Army Pizza after chapter 12, Shallot is now running Army Pizza, and she explicitly brings up the possibility of Powell's wife coming back due to having died as a mimeosome.)

You are thinking of the helicopter quest where you have to find the NPC who tells you to repair the blue wire

Her stuff will get done eventually, like H.B., Bozé, and Yelv. I figure Yelv will turn out like some of the characters in Xenogears, abrasive at first but ultimately lovable, but I dunno about the other three. Right now my priority is on Mia, Phog, and Frye. ...this makes Powell even more of an idiot, because if she committed suicide as a mimeosome, then she should be still alive inside the Lifehold, she just needs a new mimeosome to replace the one she trashed. Exactly. ...but not really, considering the data is wrecked and Mira has effectively granted everyone a digital "soul", making every mim death in the game permanent, by my interpretation. Of course no one knows that except Elma, Nagi, Maurice, Vandham, and the BLADEs that investigated the server bank.
Also, I did speak to Shallot at Army Pizza since I made the thread. The shop seems to be in good hands.

Was there anyone to hire for Army Pizza though? Pretty much everyone has some role in NLA, I don't think they're just milling around with no jobs considering how short they are on active people.
Well, I guess there are the xenos. I would say he could've hired a ma-non to help make pizza but that sounds like a bad idea.
Yeah and Powell's wife committed suicide. At some point before getting this quest, I noticed his wife wasn't at her usual spot. When talking to Powell, all he would ever mention was this thing about how the government doesn't make replacement mims for people who committed suicide out of respect for their wishes but how he thinks they really just don't want people like that wasting mims. Then he'd say how they should give people at least one second chance. I thought it came out of left field, "Why is the pizza guy talking about suicide?"
