I am going to give it to y'all straight. I LOVE the Zelda series, and it is tied with the Xeno series as my favorite videogame franchises of all time. I fell in love with Zelda Wii U at first sight. The art direction was fantastic, the story implications speculative, and the prospect of an open world in a Zelda game was fantastic. I was so hyped. Then Nintendo went silent.... They didn't even mention Zelda Wii U for longest of time since it delayed, and the excitement... Well... It died... We got 15 seconds in the recent nintendo direct, and that looks great.. But it was everything we knew already. I am really hoping that they show off Zelda Wii U today at the Game Awards tonight... But what are your thoughts on this game, the lack of info, ect.

I'm worried that ZU won't be great after playing XXCX, honestly. I also hope that, while being open world, it also has a strong and present story. Far too many people on the ZU board (that place is just the worst) are obsessed with wanting Zelda to return to its "roots", i.e. the hopeless lack of information or dialogue from the first game, and the barebones story from LttP. Not to mention they praise ALBW for doing the latter, even the the overworld was honestly really lame and the dungeons weren't good.
So my hopes for the game is to have great dungeons (favorite aspect of Zelda), story, combat (I miss TP Hidden Skills), and an open world that doesn't necessarily try to outdo Mira, but that has its own identity and doesn't make me constantly compare it to XCX.

Ocarina of Time blew me away back in the day. I can go back to it now and still marvel at it. Majora's Mask took it further too IMO.
Despite how great WW and TP is. I couldn't get into them like I could with OoT. They're certainly not inferior games. I suppose OoT rose the bar in so many ways, perhaps I was expecting too much? I know that sounds greedy. Shadow of the Colossus sort of carried what I loved about OoT further.
But Zelda Wii U. I admit I wasn't bothered about it at first. The thought of a Zelda game combined with Skyrim (another great game I couldn't get into) didn't appeal to me. I got the Wii U for Smash Bros and Xenoblade X. XCX in particular as XC is one of the most beautiful games I'd ever seen.
But when I saw Zelda U running. Something just struck a chord with me. The vast, spanning landscape wasn't filled with stat grinding like many adventure games. (I know XCX is, but it just looks so great) It was going to be filled with unique Nintendo level genius, as far as the eye could see.
Combine that with the Miiverse. A pleasant surprise on Wii U, I certainly wasn't expecting. Zelda U looks to be another dream game. But Xenoblade brought me here.

Haha you know I have a strange relationship with Zelda games. They're hit and miss for me, but the ones that I enjoy I LOVE to bits. The Wii U game I noticed continues that cel shaded style, what's the general opinion on that?

Definitely looking forward to it. Always love a new 3D Zelda game. Not a big fan of the 2d ones, honestly, though I did really enjoy Link Between Worlds.
Just kind of hope maybe this will be the one to finally break the Zelda Cycle, where the new big 3D title is the one everyone hates, right up until the next one comes out.

I think the celshading looks cool! Definitely a more cartoon feel, but that adds to the sense of adventure. I would like a more "gritty" zelda game like Twilight Princess too, but I can always just replay that game.
