I figured it would be cool to share our thoughts on the story up to a certain point somewhere. I love to read what people think. ^^
Keep in mind, no spoilers for anything other than chapter 1, 2, 3 and 4. I plan on posting a thread for the other chapters as well, so each chapter can have its own discussion, if I'm allowed to. I think it would be sweet to be able to read about how people interpret the story as we all get further and further into the game without having to worry about people posting stuff from chapters we haven't played yet.
Anyway, to kick things off; Here are the main mysteries so far imo:
1. Why did the alien races battle two years ago? 2. Who was the mysterious defender of the White Whale? 3. Why are the Prone so intent on killing humans? 4. Who is Goetia and what is her motivation? 5. Why does the number on the BLADE tower decrease?
Do you have any cool questions or ponderings so far?

I think they said earlier that the defender of the White Whale was Elma, but I might be mixed up.
The big mystery that has me wondering is the percentage on BLADE tower. It's so large and prominent and after every story chapter the number goes down a few percent, yet none of the characters have even mentioned it yet. I get the feeling something really bad will happen once it hits 0...

An NPC in the commercial district was talking about it once, saying something like "I wonder why it decreases..." so the game did at least mention it. I guess it should be added to the main mysteries!

It's so large and prominent and after every story chapter the number goes down a few percent, yet none of the characters have even mentioned it yet. I get the feeling something really bad will happen once it hits 0... Actually, I have ideas there. You know how at the end of chapter 4, the commander talks about how we're working on a time limit? I think that counter represents the time limit. Once that hits 0, humanity's hope for the future is lost, even without the Ganglion and Prone actively trying to destroy us. I'm fairly certain we'll find out soon enough after this what specifically the counter represents. You don't have something that prominent without it mattering to the story. Anyway, Lao flat out tells you that Elma was the one who defended the White Whale when you meet him. So you weren't wrong there. However, he also mentions it was a "tandem skell". That means someone else was in the same skell working together with Elma. I wonder who that is. It would be a neat twist if it turns out it was the avatar, and that's why Elma was so adamant about training you herself. It would also explain your unusual competency in battle despite having no memories. As for the battle... since we know the Prone and Ganglion were there, I think it obvious the reason it happened so close to earth was because they were there to cleanse the planet. The other race is a big mystery, though. They were obviously fighting against the Ganglion, but didn't seem to care about or be actively trying to save the earth. Perhaps they were simply trying to stop the Ganglion entirely and failed. Perhaps they're also on the Ganglion hitlist, but have the technology to actually fight back and so were trying to engage them far from their own worlds while they were preoccupied with another target. Which kind of leads into points 3 and 4, which is I think the Prone and Ganglion might have a kind of universal purity faith, where only their own races have a right to exist in the universe, and all other intelligent life is a threat to them. It would explain their attitudes and total unwillingness to negotiate. It will be interesting to find out.
